SOLO SHOW: FREYA NASH
Black, Sun Red Gold, The act of becoming
THE CRYPT GALLERY - LONDON

Black Sun Red Gold, The Act of Becoming
‘Black Sun, Red Gold: The Shape of Becoming’ explores alchemy not as metaphor but as a living, somatic process - one that speaks to the cycles of grief, purification, and renewal. Across the Crypt’s subterranean spaces, Nash conjures a material and symbolic journey through darkness and disorientation toward radiant self-integration. Paint and textile works convey visceral transformations through fabric, pigment, andform, while Nash’s film and performance expand this metamorphosis into time-based ritual and embodied movement. Symbolic masks and fragmented gestures evoke the multiplicity of the self, inviting the viewer to witness and feel states of unraveling, becoming, and rebirth.
A NOTE ON AUTHORSHIP & COLLABORATION Sade English, curator and founder of both Anticlone Gallery and the Anticlone platform, has curated the full selection of visual works for the exhibition. This includes all canvas-based works, sculptural installations, and mixed-media pieces.
These selections form the structural and symbolic core of the show, guiding the audience through stages of dissolution, purification, and integration within the alchemical phases of nigredo, albedo, and rubedo. In contrast, the exhibition’s moving image and live performance elements are authored and directed by the artist Freya Nash and performed by Yasmine Smith with sound by Oscar Abdullah.
These works are presented in collaboration with the curatorial vision of the show, but are independent artistic expressions for which the curator claims no authorship or creative input. The film and performance stand as autonomous acts of expression within the broader conceptual frame.
